This past week we, Julia Stewart and Bennett Simpson, flew as a team to Bristol, RI to compete in the US Youth Champs in the 29er fleet. It was a great experience and we learned many lessons from it.

Olympian Paris Henken returned to SDYC in early October to coach an advanced 29er clinic with a stellar coaching team including her brother Sterling Henken, Noah Nyenhuis and B Lindsay. Saturday’s focus was drills to improve down-speed boat maneuvering.

I, along with 10 of my HPYS 29er teammates, had the opportunity to sail for 5 straight days up at Alamitos Bay. While it was not the windy Long Beach area conditions we were hoping for, the team still had a great time learning and competing together.

We (Kevin Cason/skipper and and Holland Vierling/crew) recently attended our 3rd US Sailing Youth Championship, this year located in Bristol, Rhode Island. This was a super fun regatta for us. So cool to see our growth as a team over the past 3 Youth Championship races.

This was my third time racing in the 29er class for the Open Orange Bowl in Miami, Florida with my partner, Holland Vierling. The conditions were similar to our first experience, which included heavy breeze and large waves.

We just came home from Miami, after participating in both a pre-event clinic followed by the Open Orange Bowl Regatta in the 29er Class. The Open Orange Bowl event also included Nacra 15s, Snipes, and i420s on our racecourse, run by Coconut Grove Sailing Club.

The title came down to the final race, with 4 teams still in reach of the National Champion title. In the end, Logan Mraz and Ronan Curnyn (USA 8) showed a great jump in boat speed to edge out the competition, taking a bullet in the final race to secure the Championship.

Over President’s Day weekend, my crew Fiona Barbeito, and I had the awesome opportunity to travel to Jensen Beach, Florida for the 2025 C420 Midwinters Championship.

On February 12 me (August Felgenhauer) and my skipper (Julia Stewart) flew out to Clearwater, Florida for Mid Winters East to sail 29ers . Thursday, February 13 we got to Clearwater Community Sailing center, in the morning and unloaded our boat then we started rigging.

My brother, Ben, and I traveled to Clearwater Sailing Center to compete in the 29er Mid Winters East Regatta in February. We were one of four SDYC teams to attend and it was great being there, competing alongside our teammates.

Clearwater, FL welcomed us with balmy air, sunny skies, and blue water. On February 14-16 we had the opportunity to sail for the first time in the newly named, Gulf of America.

We started the week with a high-level racing clinic run by Ravi Parent and Tom Burnham, the coach for the American Magic Team. I learned so much from these coaches with all of their expertise they passed on from their own foiling experiences.

Over the week of June 24-29, my crew and I [Harrison Strom] competed in the 2025 U.S. Youth Match Race Nationals held out of Balboa Yacht Club in Newport Beach, California. My team consisted of Sabrina Anderson, Wyatt Kelly, and Kevin Cason.

We just returned from a week-long trip to San Francisco for training and then to compete in the 2025 29er Nationals. It is an exciting time to be in the 29er fleet, and this event was no exception.

On July 27, My partner August Felgenhauer and I flew out to Porto, Portugal for the 29er World Championships. The next day after we arrived, we went down to the boatpark on the Douro River to get our brand new Ovington charter boat all rigged and ready to go for training.
