Afterschool Sailing is designed to reinforce and build upon the skills learned over summer, while accommodating the busy realities of the school year. Our goal is to ensure that sailors can maintain and expand their skill set, at whatever pace their schedule allows.
With just a few holiday exceptions, Afterschool Sailing occurs between Labor Day and Memorial Day, so that sailors and parents can count on a consistent schedule. During Daylight Savings Time, we maximize time on the water. During winter, we are off the water by dark, using the remaining time to catch up on valuable classroom instruction.
Wednesdays feature an extra practice opportunity for Sabot Racers. Thursdays are a new option for Beginning and Intermediate Sabot racers, with the ultimate goal of getting prepared to join racing practices.
Fridays are our most poular days, with practice for Sea Urchins, Beg/Int Sabots, and Racing Sabots. Regular attendance by Sabot racers helps guarantee the best competition possible, and also personal progress.
We are really excited about all the new opportunities this format creates, and hope you will be too. Please let us know if you have any questions at all, or have an idea for a unique practice or activity. Our goal is to see as many sailors on the water as possible and maximize fun, learning, and results for all!

Weekly group practice for our largest Junior racing contingent. The more sailors attend, the more valuable these practices are! Fridays before weekend Sabot regattas are especially crucial.

Available by appointment, Monday - Thursday. Please contact Junior Director John Fretwell, john@sdyc.org, or 619-758-6320. 3:30-6:00 PM is the default schedule, but options may be discussed.

Learn proper small group tuning techniques, or work on specific boathandling issue, with an even better sailor to coach ratio.
Train in a C420 or CFJ with a coach onboard, or with your doublehanded partner. Enjoy one on one attention to steering, sail trim, and technique, with the coach aboard, or video analysis if sailing with a partner. This is the fast track to the next level!
Send us your goals and we will develop a program specific for you!
