Experience Catalina as California's Island Escape

The theme for this year’s special cruise is based on Catalina history since this year marks the centennial of William Wrigley Jr’s purchase of the Catalina Island Company. It was during that year that he fell in love with Catalina Island and began to develop it into the resort destination it is today. Catalina has been a popular tourist destination since the early 1900s. From the 1920’s and beyond, the island has attracted film stars, dignitaries and presidents, and still maintains that same charm today.

Saturday 9/7 to Monday 9/9 | Del Mar Basin/ Camp Pendleton

It's a great trip with beautiful views of the coastline along the way and will make the Monday trip to Catalina that much easier. Monitoring VHF channel 78, we'll plan to arrive before 4pm on Saturday 9/7. Please be prepared to set a bow and stern anchor at raft up. If you've not anchored in a while, don't worry - the anchoring is easy and we'll be there to help each other. There will be time on Sunday to have a drink and a taco at Ramons on the beach and/ or explore Oceanside harbor.

Please sign this liability form, and return a copy to Larki Cook.

Monday 9/9 | Avalon

Leave Del Mar Basin in the morning.  For the transit to Avalon, monitor channel 78.  Each cruiser will secure their mooring in paradise and enjoy the rest of the day on your own.

Tuesday 9/10

The first official event in Catalina will be miniature golf at 10 am, shotgun starts, followed by lunch at Steve’s Steakhouse, where the mini golf winners will be recognized.  Lunch will be at noon and you can order from the menu.   Dinner will be on your own.

Wednesday 9/11

There will be time during the day to explore the island or just relax on your boat. Our last night in Avalon deserves a special treat: a private three course sit down dinner at the Toyon Grill, the new upstairs space in the Conservancy’s Trailhead Visitor Center at 708 Crescent Avenue, complete with sweeping views of the harbor. Cocktail hour starts at 5pm, dinner starts at 6pm.

Be prepared to enjoy hearing a special speaker from the Avalon Museum on the Island history and share your Catalina stories.

Thursday 9/12

Leave your mooring to make your way to Cherry Cove in Two Harbors. Meet in the plaza at 2pm to meet your teammates for “Catalina Fun and Games”.  There will be fun activities for each team including coconut bowling, bocce ball and trivia.

This evening we will continue a popular mixer, the Progressive Potluck. Starting at 5pm, you will go to your assigned boat for heavy appetizers or salad and move to the next boat at 6pm for more heavy appetizers or salad and the last boat at 7pm for more of the same kind of yummies.  Since we can’t configure the mixer until we can confirm the participating boats, having the same food assignment will give you early notice of what to prepare.  You will receive a phone text when it is almost time to switch boats.

Friday 9/13

11 am  Swim exercise behind the boats.  Come enjoy the warm clear waters and shake that bootie.  Participating swimmers, male and female, will earn credit for theirFun and Games” team.   1:30pm meet in the courtyard for a fun round of Frisbee Golf.  A special Western barbeque on the beach, complete with live music and red checkered tablecloths will complete the day in style.  So wear your favorite cowboy hat and enjoy cocktails starting at 5pm and dinner at 5:45pm.

Saturday 9/14

1pm drinks and lunch at the Harbor Reef Courtyard to celebrate the overall winners of “Catalina Fun and Games” trophy.

Sunday 9/15
