The Summer Sailing classes, a huge success in the last four years, will be offered again this summer.  These are for SDYC members (ages 18 and up) for all levels: novice/beginners, intermediate, and advanced.  Experienced coaches will provide expert training at these levels.  A limited number of boats will be available from the Junior Sailing program for a fee for non boat owners.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Novice / Beginners

  • Basic knowledge of sailing
  • Learn parts of the boat, how to rig and unrig, and boat maintenance
  • Water Safety

Intermediate

  • Practice proper sailing techniques
  • Introduction to basic racing
  • Water Safety

Advanced

  • Advanced sailing skills
  • Sailing theory and racing strategy
  • Boat handling and trim
  • Regatta preparation

What to Bring (must have)

  • Life Vest w/ attached whistle
  • Bailer with a 8-10' long thin line attached
  • Sponge
  • Paddle (can be a ping pong paddle)
  • Watch with timer
  • Bow line about 12' long

What to Bring (recommended)

  • Knee pads
  • Hat or visor
  • Sunglasses
  • Sailing Gloves
  • Light and Quick Drying Clothes (jeans not recommended)
  • No jewelry
  • Set of dry clothes
  • Towel
