ABOUT THE BOAT:
Valkyrie is a dk46 racer-cruiser designed by Mark Mills and built by dk Composites in Malaysia. Valkyrie is hull 10 or 11 dk46s built worldwide and the only one based in the U.S. The dk46 was designed by Mark Mills for the IRC rule and the design has had IRC victories throughout the world. The boat has a compfortable interior and, in between race victories in 2007, made three cruising trips to Catalina Island and comfortable hosted three generations of the owner's family on-board. |
ABOUT THE CREW:
The core crew for the PV race is the same as won the 2007 Newport-Cabo race with some very experienced new additions. The crew consists of Ken Bertino, Ian Bower, Tim Lynch, Ray Marchetta, Kelly McKeown, Keith McKenzie, Andy Rasdal and Casey Schnoor. |
WHAT'S IN A NAME:
The boat is the third for the owners with a name derived from Norse Mythology. The Valkyries were the "angels" who flew above the battle fields and determined which warrior would die bravely and valiantly in battle. The Valkyries would then escort that brave warrior back to Valhalla (Viking heaven) and serve him mead. The Valkyrie PV crew is OK with the final portion of that equation upon arrival in PV, but would prefer to forego the first part! |
