ABOUT THE BOAT:
A Tim Kernan designed sport yacht, the Columbia 30 "Uncontrollable Urge" was born as a 30 footer, but has now grown to be a Columbia 32.  A refit in 2007 added two feet to the transom, a new keel, larger water tanks and other offshore goodies.
ABOUT THE CREW:
Chris Gilmore (new navigator) aka Magellan. As in "Where in the h*ll are we Magellan?”  Mike Roll (crew) aka “Splashy Pants”.  He doesn't need normal foulies.  Mike Skillicorn (crew) - aka Skillsaw.  A nuclear physicist with a penchant for plasma cutters.  Brian Vanderzanden (crew) - aka Ice Man.  He can go an entire watch without uttering a single word.  James Gilmore (skipper) aka Jungle Jim.  He is not the brains behind the outfit, but often thinks so.
WHAT'S IN A NAME:
Uncontrollable Urge is a Devo song with the chorus lyrics "got an urge, got a surge, and it's out of control...got an urge I wanna purge 'cause I'm losing control, uncontrollable urge i wanna tell you all about it…"  It basically describes our racing style, and occasionally our boat handling skills.
RANDOM:
The Youtube video featuring Uncontrollable Urge broaching during the 2006 Coastal Cup is now approaching 1,2000 views.  As Ice Man said, "If we had illumination on the funmeter, I think it would be pegged.  www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHPvP0gq7jQ
