Sailors in the 2008 Challenge for the Lipton Cup will sail the J/105 class of boat. The J/105, a 34-foot, Rod Johnstone design, is part of the "Sprit Boat Revolution" that ignited a spark when introduced in 2002 as the new contender for the Lipton Cup Challenge. Featuring an asymmetric spinnaker, flown from a retracable carbon bow sprit, the J/105 planes faster than most 40 footers and only requires five to six crew members; consequently, this speed demon has been considered an excellent choice for the prestigious Lipton Cup competition!
With a large cockpit and enough sleeping accommodations for four, the J/105 is a versatile day sailor and excellent overnighter, too. The boat's popularity continues to grow, and there are more than 600 J/105s sailing in 18 countries. In addition, there is an active owner's association and "local" one-design racing 20 fleet's across North America.
