1. When is the library open?

The SDYC library is open:
Wednesdays from 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Saturdays: 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

At other times, please see the front desk to obtain the library keys, or call 619-221-8400. The library also serves as the club Board Room, and may be in use for a meeting or presentation.

2. Where is the SDYC Library located?

The SDYC Library is in the main clubhouse of the yacht club, on the second floor. Take the stairs located down the hall from the lobby, and make a left at the top of the stair case. The library is on the left side.

3. Can I check out books from the library?

Any member is welcome to check out up to 5 books from the library each month.

4. How do I check out books from the library?

If you visit the library during our regularly scheduled hours, there will usually be a volunteer there to assist you. However, checking out books is also a simple, do-it-yourself process. Inside the front, free endpaper of each book is a recognizable library pocket with an orange card. On the card, fill out the appropriate information such as your name and the date you are checking the book out. Give yourself up to 4 weeks to read the books you are checking out, and note the due date. When you have completed filling out the orange library card, place it in one of several wall-mounted racks in the library. Be sure to close the door on the way out and return the keys to the front desk.

5. Besides books, what else does the SDYC library hold?

The library also contains many charts, navigation & cruising guides, videos in VHS and DVD format, and also a good selection of audio books in both tape and CD format.

6. How is the library organized?

The library has over 3,000 volumes listed first by Category (Such as History, Adventure, Cruising Guides, Fishing, & Cooking). Within each Category, the books are then sorted by the author’s last name.

7. How do I search online for library contents?

There are several ways in which you can search for library contents through the Past Perfect Archive

1. Choose "Start Exhibit" which will take you to the first library catalog file, from which you can click through each file in sequence.

2. Choose "Table of Contents" and view a complete listing of the library contents.

3. Choose "Search The Library" to search for library contents by entering keywords (such as Title, Author, or Subject)

4. Choose "Library Home" to return to SDYC Library Home Page

5. Choose "Past Perfect Home" to enter the SDYC Historical Archives, Trophy Collection, Photo Collection, and Library Collection.
