Boats

At this point, stay to the left and follow the channel that leads toward the San Diego Harbor Police offices and where the U.S. Customs does their check-ins. Once past the Harbor Police, stay to your right and follow the channel almost to the end (you will see the Chevron/Pearson fuel docks). San Diego Yacht Club is on the left. Our guest dock is located between D and E docks. Please check in at the front desk upon your arrival.

About SDYC

In 1886 a group of local boating enthusiasts joined together to found what has become a cornerstone yacht club in the annals of American yachting.  San Diego Yacht Club's facilities had humble beginnings in a number of locations, including an old ferry boat.  SDYC has been at its present location on Point Loma since 1924, and the current clubhouse was recently remodeled to meet all current building standards and codes.  Its facilities operate year round and include 576 boat slips, dry storage for 161 boats, 2 tennis courts, a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, picnic areas, a full service dining room, bar, banquet facilities, snack bar (summer only), gift shop, and an internationally renowned year-round Junior Program.  Two-thirds of the members own boats.  One-hundred employees maintain the Club facilities to serve the membership and their guests.  SDYC members are dedicated to the principles and traditions of Corinthian yachting.

The SDYC Jr. Sailing Program is celebrating its Eightieth Anniversary this year.  Founded in 1928 by Staff Commodore Joe Jessop, the Jr. Sailing Program has consistently been turning out national and international champions in almost every class, Americas Cup skippers and crews, and Olympic team members (including 10 Olympic Medals and two current team members, Andrew Campbell in the Laser and Graham Biehl in the Men’s 470).  SDYC’s Jr. Program operates year round under the direction of a full time Jr. Sailing Director, Boatswain and Administrative Assistant.  The coaching staff consists of College All-Americans, National & World Champions and Olympic hopefuls.

The Race Committee and Race Management Department organize and run approximately 45 events a year ranging from simple One Design Weekends to the 2007 US SAILING Olympic Trials for the Tornado Class.  The Race Committee Chairmen oversees a committee that consists of two ISAF International Race Officers, numerous US SAILING National, Regional and Area Race Officers as well as a dedicated group of volunteer members.  The Sailing Office is managed by a full time Race Director (who is an ISAF International Race Officer) and a full time Regatta Administrator/Webmaster.  The Race Committee Fleet includes a custom 23’ DeFever Trawler as the flagship RC Boat, three 20’-25’ whaler style cabin tops for mark set or finish boats, a 21’ hard bottom inflatable two 17’ Boston Whalers and ten 13’ Boston Whalers.  Many members donate the use of their boats as well.
