Prerequisite: Completion of the 2nd Grade
The goal of this class is to teach young children a basic knowledge of sailing. Students will solo in Sabots and work on basics such as learning terminology, finding wind direction, steering, tacking and gybing, capsizing and other fundamentals. This course is appropriate for summer graduates of the Sea Urchins and Sea Horses classes, as well as true beginners.
All after school classes are "maintenance" oriented, meaning that topics will be repeated several times and lessons will be selected based on daily weather and group attendance. Sailors are ready to advance to Thursday's racing class when they can functionally rig, launch, sail on all points of sail, and return to the dock safely without instructor aid.

Prerequisite: Participants in Racing Sabots are functional solo sailors.
The Sabot Racing class is designed to introduce and reinforce the fundamentals of competitive sailing: boat handling, boat speed, strategy and tactics. Each afternoon will consist of a brief chalk talk, on the water drills, and short course racing. Large attendance and repetition have been the keys to our sailors' success over the years. Participants are encouraged and expected to participate in regattas shown on the SDYC calendar.
