Welcome to the 2011/2012 High School Sailing season at San Diego Yacht Club

SDYC is proud to once again be hosting Point Loma HS, Francis-Parker, Cathedral Catholic, and The Bishop’s School. Each of these teams has qualified for the national championships in recent years, so some of the best competition in the country is right here in our La Playa basin!

High School sailing at SDYC occurs out of the Malin Burnham Sailing Center. This world class facility allows us to host all sorts of sailing events, including high school practices and regattas, with a level of accommodation unrivaled in the region. Some of the amenities the MBSC has to offer include:

  • 18 Club Flying Junior dinghies, available for daily practice
  • 18 purpose built sets of sails with large color coded numbers to facilitate team racing and more efficient practices
  • Multiple classroom environments, including the Jessop Room with plentiful whiteboards and state of the art audio/visual options
  • Chase boats and race buoys for coaches to utilize during practice
  • Three 3-boat trailers to facilitate travel to off-site high school regattas

As in the past, every high school sailor must pay a charter fee to SDYC and complete a medical/liability waiver to participate in practices in any way. For 2011/2012, these fees may split by per semester. Sailors will have the option of paying $275 for either the Fall or Spring semester (or both), or paying $500 for the entire year up front. The Fall semester runs September - December and the Spring semester runs January - May. A sailor may not utilize SDYC equipment in any way unless they have paid the fees for that semester.

Our facility is available for high school practices beginning August 30th. Practice days are assigned as following:

High School Sailiing 2011-2012
Point Loma High School Mondays & Wednesdays
Francis Parker High School Mondays & Wednesdays
Cathedral Catholic High School Tuesdays & Thursdays
The Bishop's School Tuesdays & Thursdays

Please let me know if you have any questions at all about High School sailing at San Diego Yacht Club. We’re looking forward to an excellent season and an exciting future!
