John Fretwell
John grew up in southern Maryland, spending most weekends racing Lasers or cruising the Chesapeake aboard his family’s 33’ Pearson. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Maryland, where he was also captain of the intercollegiate sailing team.
John worked for SDYC over the summers of 1990 and 1991 and liked the San Diego lifestyle so much that he settled here. Since that time he has worked in a wide variety of coaching and instructional settings, while racing and cruising extensively up and down the coast and around the world. When not coaching or racing Snipes, John enjoys golf, snowboarding, and playing guitar. His wife Aine is an avid sailor as well, and their daughter Avery, and twins Owen and Carlin will be hitting the Sabot scene soon.
