PCISA Team Race Championships

Nine teams competed in the 2011 district championship at Lido Isle Yacht Club Easter weekend.  Racing got underway at 1100 Saturday in a light southwest breeze.  The breeze built and shifted to the west as the day went on.  Newport Harbor team parents put on a Burger BBQ lunch ashore while racing took place in front of the club.  The first round robin of 36 races (and two resails) was completed by 1600.  Pt. Loma swept their races with Corona del Mar right behind.  Coronado, Newport Harbor, Cathedral Catholic and Branson also secured enough wins to move on to the double round robin.  Ten races in the second round robin were completed before racing concluded, with Newport Harbor knocking off Pt. Loma and CDM to move up.

Easter Sunday racing started at 1145 in a cold rainy southerly.  The second round robin was completed by 1240 and teams headed ashore briefly while a redress was heard.  During the break, the wind shifted to the west and filled in at 8-10 knots.  The final round robin resumed around 1330 and was completed by 1545.  Point Loma won 16 races and is the 2011 champion.  Newport Harbor finished 2nd with 14 wins and Corona del Mar was 3rd with 13 wins.  These three teams will represent PCISA at the 2011 Baker Trophy in Norfolk, Virginal.

Congratulations to Jake LaDow, Jake Reynolds, Will LaDow, Duncan Swain, Will Herrin, Maddy Brownsea, Eric Cibit, Matt Hecht and Kyle Sutter.
