BOAT NAME: Kachina
BOAT TYPE:
West Bay Pilothouse Cruiser
SKIPPER: James Mashburn
EXPERIENCE: 10 Years
CLUB: San Diego Yacht Club
BUILT:
2005
PURCHASED: 2005

FAVORITE DESTINATION:
Kachina is a pilot house coastal cruiser piloted by my wife, Charlotte, and I. As we have not cruised Mexican waters, we look forward to participating in Fubar. We enjoy cruising in the Pacific Northwest because of the region's scenic beauty and placid waters.

FAVORITE BOATING EXPERIENCE:
Cruising the San Juan and Canadian Islands in the Pacific Northwest. The Canadian fjords are breathtaking.

ABOUT THE CREW:
As a support vessel, our crew will be determined closer to the cruise.

WHAT'S IN A NAME: "KACHINA"
We both enjoy Western and Indian art and have a small collection of Kachina dolls in our residence. When naming our first power boat, "Kachina" seemed to fit.

REASON FOR PURCHASING THIS BOAT:
We appreciated the boat's lines, the builder's reputation and the positive experience we had enjoyed with the prior 2 Westbays we had owned.

PREVIOUS BOATS OWNED:
Power: Westbay 58 (2) Sail: Mason 54, Erickson 35, Ranger 26, Schock 20, and our beginner boat, a Lido 14

INTEREST IN THE FUBAR ODYSSEY:
We look forward to experiencing cruising in Mexican waters, learning a great deal from seasoned navigators (we have a lot to learn) and making a number of new friends.

BOATING STORY:
My youngest daughter and I, while in the T/T Kachina, saw a seal rapidly coming directly towards our beam jumping in and out of the water. We were convinced the seal would land in the dinghy with us and we were quickly trying to plan our worst case scenario. We held our breath as the seal's last jump put him in the water on our starboard side less than a foot from our dinghy. We breathed a sigh of relief and started to laugh as we realized it was just all fun and games for the seal but not so much for us!
