1978

Catalina, Channel Islands, San Juan and BC Islands

Traveling between Alaska and the Pacific Northwest.

ABOUT THE CREW:
I celebrated my 46th anniversary with Ward/Davis Assoc, a technical manufacturers representative and am still working. My wife, Vanita, is a business and transfer pricing appraiser for Ceteris Group. We have been married 5 years. Our crew, Rick and Marsh Ruppert are lifelong friends. We have been boating with them for 30 years as well as going on annual motorcycle trips together. Rick has a yacht maintenance business and Marsha is a retired executive from Pacific Life.

WHAT'S IN A NAME: "CARPE DIEM"
Carpe Diem, "Seize the moment/day" was named when Vanita and I decided to get married.

REASON FOR PURCHASING THIS BOAT:
Hatteras made several hundred long range cruisers in the late 70's. The boat we purchased has had the rear cockpit extended 8 ft extending the overall length from 48 to 56 ft. We have excellent range due to 1500 gallons of fuel and twin 100hp diesels. We enjoy the benefits of a wheelhouse and a flybridge. The systems built into the boat are robust and well executed.

PREVIOUS BOATS OWNED:
1972 Luhrs 32, 1972 Alaskan 49

INTEREST IN THE FUBAR ODYSSEY:
Investigating the West coast of Baja; traveling by boat to Baja for the first time; the plan to continue our journey to Mexico; meeting new friends.
