ALMOST ALIMONY

View more profiles
BOAT NAME: Almost Alimony
BOAT TYPE:
Pacifica Sportsfisher
SKIPPER: Don Hudzietz
EXPERIENCE: 41 Years
CLUB: Long Beach Yacht Club
BUILT:
1977
PURCHASED: 1997

FAVORITE DESTINATION:
Probably Cherry Cove in Catalina. Peaceful, relaxing, and seems like a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of southern CA.

FAVORITE BOATING EXPERIENCE:
Too many, but maybe when my son Bret and his friend Sean caught our first marlin at the Avalon Bank. They were only twelve and we had no clue how to handle the boat with a marlin. We've come a long ways since then.

ABOUT THE CREW:
OLD. More later.

WHAT'S IN A NAME: "ALMOST ALIMONY"
We had just sold a 1950 46' Chris Craft tricabin we owned for 19 years. The termites was the last straw. The wives were pretty happy we were going to not own a boat for a while. But my brother-in-law and I were sitting at the Crab Pot drinking beer realizing we were going to lose our slip. Which is an incredible slip. So after another few beers we decided they wouldn't divorce us just for buying a boat without their OK, they were so upset they wouldn't even sign the loan docs on the new boat we found. So we figured "Almost Alimony" would be an appropriate name. It worked for me, not so much luck for my brother-in-law, he divorced.

REASON FOR PURCHASING THIS BOAT:
Pacifica's have been known for six pack charters, so they can take a lot of abuse. Built well with a large cockpit.

PREVIOUS BOATS OWNED:
Numerous Eliminator ski boats and day cruisers, 24' Bayliner sailboat. 46' 1950 all mahogany Chris Craft, 44' Pacifica and the latest as a 21' Searay. Ginger wasn't to happy about owning 2 boats. Then I reminded her it was 3 if you counted the dingy. Me and my big mouth.

INTEREST IN THE FUBAR ODYSSEY:
First would be the camaraderie, the fact that I haven't ventured past Ensenada before and the safety in numbers. Should be a great learning experience. If anything, it will make me finish all the little projects on the boat.

BOATING STORY:
Probably when we had a friend out fishing in the Drambui marlin tourney and had him fight a bucket for 45 minutes. Everything was fine until he said he wanted to see it jump and the rest of us just couldn't help but roll on the floor laughing. We do have a good picture of him holding the bucket.
