MEMBERSHIP in the San Diego Yacht Club is generally available to those who have a demonstrated interest in participating in and promoting the development of yachting in all its aspects, including, without limitation, cruising, angling and racing.

The MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE and the BOARD OF DIRECTORS will require substantial proof from all new member applicants that they either: (a) Have proven past YACHTING experience and intend to continue that experience, or (b) Can demonstrate that they intend to participate actively in the yachting activities of the Club even though they have not had past yachting experience.

The following are the basic requirements for application of membership in the San Diego Yacht Club:

  • Two sponsors who are current Junior Flag, Flag or Life members of SDYC and have known the applicant for a minimum of two years.

  • Six references who are also current Junior Flag, Flag, or Life members of San Diego Yacht Club (Junior Flag applicants may submit an application with only 2 sponsors).

  • Applicant should have boating experiences with his/her sponsors and references.

  • Applications may be requested through the front office by the first sponsor only. Currently, the application process takes approximately three months.

  • Attendance at an invitational luncheon is required prior to review of the application by the Membership Committee.

Upon receipt of the application it is logged in and processed according to the date of receipt. The Membership Committee will thoroughly investigate all applicants and recommend approval or denial of membership to the Board of Directors who make final determination of acceptance or denial. Relatives, members of the Board of Directors and Membership Committee cannot sponsor or be listed as a reference on an application.
