SDYC members since 1997, Neal Schneider and Ruthie Sandven departed SDYC in 2010 for a round-the-world cruise aboard their 48-foot Contest ketch, Rutea. Three years into their trip, they were ready to cross the island nation of Indonesia, visiting seventeen of the more than 14,000 islands and sailing almost the country's entire breadth of over 3,000 miles in just eight weeks. Many of the remote places they visited rarely see light-skinned people and often young children were frightened at the sight of them.
Their experiences of spectacular natural beauty, interesting cultural differences, meeting face-to-face with wild komodo dragons and orangutans, will be shared in a Cruising Fleet meeting you won't want to miss.
