Sailing through the Windward passage, Annie and Eric cruised the sea roads less traveled along the south side of Cuba in 2018. They visited remote villages. And there were many days when they saw no other boats along the 777 mile coast.

Eric and Annie will share their descriptions of the archipelagos and towns along the south coast which capture the Cuban history and essence of the people.

Annie Gardner and Eric Witte have been cruising their Catana 472 for over five years.

They began their journey in 2015 in France. They cruised the Med for one season visiting the islands and coasts of Italy, Greece, Spain, Sicily, the Balearics, and Gibraltar.

Crossing the Atlantic from the Canary and Cape Verde islands, they explored the Caribbean island chains to Turks and Caicos and ventured north along the East coast from Florida to Maine.

They sailed to Cuba and sailed along the more remote and less frequented south coast. From there they continued south to Cayman Islands, islands off Nicaragua, the San Blas Islands, and Cartagena, Colombia before transiting the Panama Canal.

When Covid hit, they turned north instead of their intended path to the Marquesas. Mexico under quarantine was amazing as there were so few people and boats. It was as if they were traveling back in time.

They are now happily nestled at the SDYC waiting it out before continuing the journey.
