SDYC's Cruising Fleet Steering Committee alum Gerry and Carol Keigher just returned from the Cruising Fleet Flotilla in the San Juan Islands.
Why the San Juan Islands? The San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands are an excellent introduction for anyone considering longer coastal cruising north into Canada or Alaska. The charter companies also offer escorted trips throughout region. There are a lot of power boats to choose from. Not just sail boats.
Gerry and Carol have enjoyed bare boat charters in a few locations over the past few decades including Australia’s Whitsunday Islands, Carribean Islands and the U.S. Pacific Coastal cities. They recommend the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands as a first time bare boat charter destination. It is a short flight or scenic 3 day drive from San Diego. Emergency and boat maintenance support is available because all of the islands are populated and within a few miles of each other. Full service supply stores are a short drive away from the charter bases for provisioning and the islands have surprisingly well stocked stores for shopping along the way.

No phone calls or voice messages will be accepted. In addition, no registrations will be accepted within 48 hours prior to the event, in order to plan for proper staffing.
