Nautical chart cancellation process, timelines, and strategic approach webinar
In November 2019, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) initiated a five-year process to end all raster nautical chart production. NOAA is intent on easing the transition to ENC-based products while continuing to support safe navigation.
NOAA invites the public to attend a webinar, which will provide information about ending production of its traditional paper nautical charts and associated raster chart products and services. The discussion will include the rationale for sunsetting traditional nautical charts and the focus on improvements to the NOAA premier nautical chart product – the electronic navigational chart (NOAA ENC®). The criteria for prioritizing specific chart cancellations and methods of announcing cancellations, and the general chart cancellation timeline will also be covered.
